Isko Moreno running for president in 2022
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is running for president in the 2022 national elections with former senatorial candidate Dr Willie Ong as running mate for vice-president.
This was confirmed in a Facebook post by Cesar Chavez, Domagoso’s chief of staff.
Domagoso, a former film actor turned politician, will formally announce his intention to run for the highest office in the country at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday 22 September.
Prior to this announcement, Domagoso was already widely regarded as one of the “presidential candidates” who featured prominently in pre-election polls.
So far Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao have already declared their intention to run. Another senator, Christopher “Bong” Go was appointed by Pacquiao’s party faction, PDP-Laban, led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi. Go declined the nomination.
Davao City Sara Duterte, who has led the polls so far, has repeatedly said she will not run for president while Vice President Leonor “Leni” Robredo still keeps her options open, but said that she would consider running for president if arch rival Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, who formally contested his victory in the 2016 election, will run.
Ong, who lost his candidacy for a Senate seat in 2019, will face an equally difficult group of vice-presidents, including Senate President Tito Sotto, who will be Lacson’s running mate and President Rodrigo Duterte himself. , who also expressed his intention to run for vice-president.
