Michigan restraining order attorney Paul J. Tafelski (https://www.michigandefenselaw.com/restraining-order-lawyer/) publishes a new article that explains the two general types of personal protection orders ( PPO). According to the attorney, there were 66,316 incidents of domestic violence in Michigan in 2016. This data comes from the Michigan Incident Crime Reporting Database.

“According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 41% of women and 14% of men are injured by intimate partner violence, and 16% of murders overall stem from this type of violence. The sheer number of incidents, injuries, and deaths related to domestic violence has resulted in increased attention to these crimes in recent decades,” the Michigan restraining order attorney says.

The attorney explains that domestic violence is a growing crime and law enforcement is focusing more on these crimes. False accusations can usually be used to get revenge on the wrongly accused person. Since there is an added focus on domestic violence, a person can report their spouse to have them stopped even if the violence never happened.

Attorney Paul J. Tafelski tells victims of domestic violence they have a number of options. One option is to get a restraining order or a personal protection order. PPOs are generally temporary restraining orders. They can be applied to limit the actions of one person towards another person.

Attorney Tafelski describes the PPO as an order restraining or restraining a person from engaging in violence, threats to harm, harassment or other violent behavior. Michigan PPOs can be used for domestic violence. It doesn’t matter if the couples are married.

According to the criminal defense attorney, there are two types of PPOs in Michigan. There are two types of OPPs in Michigan: the home OPP (for household use) and the stalking OPP (for general use). A domestic PPO can be filed against anyone who is in a marital relationship with the accuser. This may be requested by an accuser if there has been a history of interference with individual liberties.

Attorney Tafelski further explains that there is another type of PPO called stalking. This PPO is available if someone is accused or suspected of doing things that could make someone in a relationship feel threatened, harassed, or scared.

Finally, attorney Paul Tafelski points out that if someone is facing domestic violence charges, it’s important to seek the help of an experienced defense attorney. Having a competent defense attorney can help the accused protect their rights and freedom.
